The mother of Brisbane Broncos star Payne Haas will be able to watch her son's State of Origin debut after narrowly avoiding prison time.

Uiatu 'Joan' Taufua attacked delivery driver Keith Tyler in a car park at The Pines shopping centre on the Gold Coast in a road rage incident last year.

The 42-year-old mother-of-10 thought he cut her off while she was on her way to McDonald's with two of her children.

Mr Tyler was left beaten and bloody after the brazen daylight attack, which left him with a fractured cheekbone, a hole in his lip and a broken nose.

Taufua became 'extremely agitated' and verbally abused Mr Tyler during the altercation - which was partially recorded on his smartphone - calling him a 'f***ing dog', and a 'f***ing d**khead'.

Her defence lawyer, Lisa Searing acknowledged Taufua 'reacted differently to how the average person might react'.

She said one of Taufua's 10 children became quadriplegic as a result of a car accident.

She is also the primary carer of her husband, who is on a disability pension, and cars for an 84-year-old family friend named Pop.

In addition to her own 10 children aged between four and 21, Taufua has taken in two more children, the court heard.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse described her behaviour as 'unforgivable' and sentenced her to two years' imprisonment.

But she ordered an immediate parole, meaning Taufua will be able to attend her son's first State of Origin game on June 5 in Brisbane.

Haas became the most inexperienced player to be selected to represent his state in almost 25 years when he was announced in Brad Fittler's Blues team on Sunday.

Taufua arrived at Southport Magistrates Court for her sentencing hearing wrapped up in a NSW Blues scarf ahead of Haas' game.

'Go the Blues,' she said.

'This has nothing to do with my son.'

But Haas has previously faced punishment from the NRL Integrity Commission after he failed to assist in investigations into a separate incident involving his mum.

The 19-year-old was suspended for four matches and fined $20,000 after he refused to cooperate during investigations into a brawl at a women's rugby league match.

Taufua was given a three-year probation order for assaulting a mother and her teenage daughter at the women's rugby league match in Brisbane in August last year.

Security footage of the latest assault played to the court showed Taufua along with two accomplices confront Mr Tyler through the driver's side window.

Taufua followed Mr Tyler into the loading dock with two children.

He was verbally abused and called a 'f****** dog' and, when he began filming the incident on his mobile phone, it was slapped from his hand.

The driver was punched and kneed in the head as Taufua held him in place by the shirt.

Bleeding profusely from his mouth and face, Mr Tyler tried to record Taufua's number plate.

Phone footage shows Taufua call him a 'f****** dickhead' before she slapped him across the face.

Mr Tyler said at the time 'she was certainly the most aggressive, not just female, but person I've ever come across in my life'.
