GREATER NOIDA: Police arrested 25 people for robbery, snatching and other gang crimes from various locations in the last two days under ‘Operation Robbers Hunt’. The accused had been absconding.
Among those arrested, four were named in murder cases, four were dacoits, six were booked under the Gangsters Act while 11 were booked for snatchings and robberies. A woman, Draupadi, was among those booked for sheltering the dacoits who stole Rs 35 lakh along with the safe in which the cash was kept at the office of Mahagun builders in Sector 63, Noida. Three others — Irfaan, Navratan and Jagdish — have also been arrested in the case.
With the arrests, police claimed to have cracked 18 incidents of crime in sectors 20, 24, 39, Phase 3, Expressway, Surajpur, Badalpur, Jarcha, Dankaur, Kasna and Dadri areas.

They recovered Rs 3.35 lakh of stolen money, six country-made pistols, 13 live bullets, one revolver, two stolen vehicles, nine mobile phones, a wrist watch and the engine of a stolen bike. According to police, 45 teams were assigned to carry out raids during the two-day operation to curb street crime. They were mostly headed by inspectors and sub-inspectors.
“The operation was carried out on a district level. Among those arrested three were absconding since more than one year, two since six months while 17 were wanted since three months,” said Vaibhav Krishna, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar. He said the crackdown will lead to fewer incidents of street crimes. “We have given the message loud and clear. Incidents of crime are expected to decrease in the coming days,” he said.
