KURUKSHETRA: Three days after an incident on May 25, when two persons were paraded with their faces blackened and the garland of shoes around their neck through
Jhansa villages area in Kurukshetra district, on May 28,
Hardayal Singh, Jhansa village Chowkidar lodged a complaint with police of defaming the name of his village in the area.
Both the accused were also booked under charges of kidnapping for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 13-year-old girl on the pretext of marriage, following which the angered parents had thrashed them, blackened their faces and paraded with shoes around their neck on May 25. The video of the incident went viral in the area.
On May 28, in his complaint to police, Hardayal stated, “I am
chowkidar of Jhansa village, on May 25 at around 11.30am, nearly 10 to 15 persons gathered in the park of Baba Markanda Temple, Jhansa, and they were beating two persons namely Pritam Singh of Bahri Mohalla, Kurukshetra and Naresh Kumar of Assandh in Karnal district. The faces of both these men were blackened and they were paraded between temple park and Markanda bridge. Kindly take action against these unidentified persons.”
While talking to TOI, Punit Mal, Sarpanch Jhansa said, “The persons who were seen in the video do not belong to our village but due to their act the name of our village has been defamed in the area. Following which a complaint has been given to the police.”
On receiving this complaint, the Kurukshetra police have registered a case against unknown accused under Section 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 500 (Punishment for defamation), and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code at Jhansa police station to start the investigation.
Kurukshetra DSP Anil Kumar said, "In this case, the
viral video will be analysed properly and accordingly those found involved in taking the law into their hands will be arrested. The duo may have committed some offence, but nobody is allowed to take law into their own hands. They were arrested by the police and similarly, an investigation will be carried in this case as well."
