PATNA: A day after criminals shot dead a 60-year-old trader an hour after kidnapping him in Begusarai, ADG (law and order) Amit Kumar on Wednesday said law and order scenario in the state was “good and satisfactory”.
Talking to media persons along with IG (operation) Sushil Mansingh Khopde at the new state police headquarters building here, the ADG said organised crime, which affects state’s image, was very much under control.
On Monday, a man with criminal antecedent was shot dead while he was going to the Kidwaipuri park here for morning stroll and around Rs 60 lakh was looted from a rice trader in Patna City on the same day. On Wednesday too, mutilated bodies of three Jamui youths, who were kidnapped on May 24 from Nawada, were recovered.
Asked about Monday’s incidents, Kumar said police have already identified those involved in the murder case. “The loot case was a professional crime. The police were not informed about the cash movement in advance. It’s surprising that a business establishment was running from a residential complex. The civic body should take action against such units,” Kumar said.
The ADG appealed to the business units to either inform police or hire private security agencies in case of movement of hefty cash.
“The Lok Sabha elections, matriculation and Intermediate examinations were conducted peacefully in the state. In last five months, six major encounters took place in the state in which either 10 criminals and Maoists were neutralised. Three rifles of AK-series, an INSAS rifle, carbines, cartridges and other small firearms were recovered from the encounter spots,” he said, adding the encounters took place on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.

Kumar said the special task force of state police arrested 15 criminals (13 carrying Rs 50,000 reward and two Rs 25,000 reward on their heads) from Bihar and other states in the last five months. “Altogether 55 wanted criminals have been arrested till now from the list of top 10 criminals provided by all districts,” he said.
Asked about some important cases in which police in Patna and Vaishali have so far not made any breakthrough, the ADG said achieving 100% strike rate was not always possible. “This does not mean that the culprits are off the hook,” he added.
