Strict adherence to the examination schedule and deployment of additional manpower to pivotal wings have paid dividends for the University of Kerala which has successfully published the results of its undergraduate (UG) examinations in record time.
Despite having the highest number of candidates and courses in the State, the university has been able to publish the results within two weeks of the completion of the examinations. By doing so, the university officials have managed to set straight an unenviable track record of being among the last ones to announce results.
While the final-year examinations, including practicals, were completed on May 10, the results of the BSc examinations were declared on May 22 and those of BCom and BA on May 25. The achievement was the result of a constant improvement in the conduct of examinations. In 2017, the final-year results were declared by July end and the next year by June.
13,272 successful
As many as 27,280 candidates appeared for the examinations this year, of which 13,272 successfully cleared the courses. While mark lists were made available online, efforts were on to issue provisional certificates within a week, official sources said. P. Rajesh Kumar, chairman of the Syndicate standing committee on examinations, attributed the success to a number of decisions taken to optimise the existing human resources in addition to appointing additional staff to strengthen the examination wing. Two additional sections were created and a new post of Assistant Registrar was created.
Besides, two computer assistants each were deputed to the nine centralised valuation camps in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Cherthala and Pandalam to ensure that the marks were uploaded on the same day of valuation. Previously, marks used to be uploaded from the university headquarters after a few days.
Supervisory duty
The data processing centre was also beefed up with additional staff and adequate computers to ensure simultaneous entry of false numbers. To streamline the valuation process, Syndicate members were given supervisory duties of camps to address logistical issues without delay.
The university also managed to rectify the problem of delayed disbursement of remuneration for valuation, which has been a matter of consternation among teachers for long. Audit teams were frequently deployed to each valuation camp to enable the processing of the disbursal within two weeks.
