Labourer run over by tanker

Pune: A labourer riding a bicycle was run over by a water tanker near Datta Mandir in Wakad on Tuesday at 8 am.  The deceased was identified as Vijay Das (57) from Bihar.

The complaint in the case was lodged by Sanjay Das (23). Police are yet to arrest the tanker driver.

Speaking about the rash driving of water tanker drivers in the area, Sudhir Deshmukh, Member of Pimpri Chinchwad Society Housing Federation and resident of Su Casa Society on Datta Mandir Road, Wakad, said, “The civic body has turned a blind eye towards encroachments. The road where the accident took place is 45 metres wide but due to encroachments, it has narrowed to 25 metres.”

Another resident staying opposite the water tanker refilling station in Wakad, Harshad Deshmukh, said, “We see the rash driving of tanker drivers. They do not care about pedestrians.”
