Ferrari will reveal its second ever hybrid model, the SF90 Stradale, today (Wednesday).

The model's SF90 tag, confirmed by a trademark site, is shared with the current Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 car and celebrates 90 years since the formation of the racing division in 1929. Stradale is Italian for 'road going'.

A preview sketch, showing a silhouette of the forthcoming supercar's rear end, bears the slogan 'Dare to Imagine' and confirms the official debut date.

The sketch highlights four square brake lights and a pair of sizeable exhaust tips protruding from the centre of the rear bumper, bearing a remarkable resemblance to last year's 488 GTB-based SP38 concept

Rumours suggest the new supercar will pack a mid-mounted 3.9-litre V8, mated to three electric motors for a combined power output of 973bhp. It will serve as a rival to McLaren's forthcoming new hybrid supercar, which was recently spotted carrying out preliminary tests ahead of its launch next year

Ferrari has previously confirmed plans to launch a new downsized V6 alongside a range of hybrid models. Michael Leiters, Ferrari's technical chief, said: “V6 is the next step to follow downsizing without losing emotion or speed of the car.”

Specific details of the powertrain are scare, but a video filmed at Ferrari's Fiorano test track early last year showed a 488-based prototype operating at speed with no audible engine note, as the company ramped up its efforts to meet the EU's stringent CO2 emissions targets for 2021.

The launch is Maranello's first since the F8 Tributo, its final turbocharged V8-powered supercar, was revealed at the Geneva motor show in March. The new hybrid is the first of five Ferraris due this year and one of 15 planned before 2022.

Ferrari 488 Pista 2018 road test review hero front

Ferrari's special series of track-honed road cars rarely disappoints, but is the 710bhp 488 Pista better than the McLaren 720S or Porsche 911 GT3?

In 2022, the firm will launch its long-rumoured SUV model. Company boss Louis Camillieri said he was “not concerned on being too late” to market with the car but “more concerned on being the best”.

He added: “It takes time to get the best thing. I’m confident it will be spectacular and within our DNA.”

This chap appears not to have heard of the LaFerrari?

What a miserable article to read. Downsized V6s and retained 'emotion'.

I'm not sure which is worse - the article of Ferrari's PR. The latter seems to be about as bad as their F1 team!

So they are about to reveal another hybrid car, and it is said as if hybrid is something amazing. Just about every boring family car-maker produces a hybrid. A hybrid in 2019? So what!

And it is to compete with McLaren. Yes, of course. It has to, but which McLaren? They do produce quite a few different models these days!

This is like Ford producing a new car and saying it is to compete with a VW!

"Tomorrow will mark Maranello's first new car since the F8 Tributo, its final turbocharged V8-powered supercar, at the Geneva motor show in March". It's worded as if March was a decade ago! That aside, with near 1000bhp, is this a replacement for the LaFerrari and therefore Ferrari's next hypercar? Or is a new model to sit between a supercar (F8) and a hypercar (LaFerrari)? Or is just a concept car showing the powertrain for future Ferrari's?

Rival to what? Corrosion-prone, turbo-lagged and depreciation victims cars?

Did you ever check financials of the two companies? Or residuals of the cars?
