The carnivore had killed 12 goats on Monday

Four automatic cameras set up on a farmland at Vettuvan Pudur in Gobichettipalayam taluk to monitor wild animals has recorded the movement of a leopard on Tuesday evening.

The residents of villages located near the Thuckanaickenpalayam Forest Range were worried over the killing of cattle by wild animals that stray into the villages following severe drought in the forest.

On Monday night, a leopard entered a farmland and killed 12 goats belonging to Ravi. Villagers demanded compensation for the loss and also sought protection for them from wild animals.

Thuckanaickenpalayam Forest Ranger Manoj Kumar and his team searched the farmland for pugmarks. On Tuesday evening, four automatic cameras were set up on the farmland.

The cameras recorded the movement of a leopard at 7 p.m. Officials said that compensation would be paid to the farmer and footages would be reviewed on Thursday.
