Citizens who want to refute Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) claims of desilting, road works now have the chance to do so. Mumbaikars can complain about incomplete work on a BMC mobile application, following which engineers concerned will face the music.
Every year, the BMC claims to have completed most of road work and desilting work by May 31 but these claims are always washed away in the first rains. This year, the civic body has got a new Municipal Commissioner just ahead of the rainy season. The commissioner, Praveen Pardeshi, took a monsoon preparedness review meeting in the civic headquarters on Tuesday.
Mr. Pardeshi has directed officers to make the MCGM 24x7 mobile app more interactive and comprehensive by creating a module for complaints. People will also be able to upload pictures and geo-tag their location with their complaints.
All officers have to upload pictures related to prominent or critical locations related to desilting or road works by June 12 to show status before monsoon. If people notice any discrepancy on ground regarding these claims, they can click pictures and upload them on the app. Once this is done, the officer responsible will have to face action.
As of now, people can complain only about potholes on the MCGM 24x7 app, toll free number 1800221293 or a wardwise list of road engineers.
“This measure is to ensure we get direct feedback from citizens. If a Mumbaikar simply uploads a picture contrary to our claim, that engineer will instantly face action,” said a senior civic officer.
