REVEALED: The incredibly simple tactic cops used to bring down Sydney's 'dial-a-dealer cocaine empire' and arrest 55 people on drug charges in the city's affluent east

  • Police launched a series of drug raids across Sydney over the past three weeks
  • Plain clothes officers arrested 55 suspected dealers and customers in the east
  • They caught the alleged culprits the old fashioned way - with undercover cops

A cocaine empire was brought down by young police officers simply watching deals on the wealthy streets of eastern Sydney.

In a huge operation over three weeks this month, police arrested 55 suspected dealers and customers.

Instead of using modern technology, they caught the alleged culprits the old fashioned way - with undercover cops standing on the streets waiting to swoop.

'It was all on observation,' Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell told the Daily Telegraph.

'We didn't use any media platforms, it was just a proactive operation using keen young officers to get out there and target the criminals supplying drugs.

'It's thanks to the tremendous work of the young officers who were out there identifying the drug transactions taking place and reacting to what occurred.'

Police said they are now trawling through suspected dealers' phones and will scour their contacts to track down their customers.

They will send a message to customers, saying: 'Your phone number has been located in a cocaine investigation. If you have any information in relation to this please contact police or CrimeStoppers.'

The raids took place on six nights over three weeks in May.

They charged 28 people with drug supply and charged 27 people with drug possession.

Redfern Region Enforcement Squad Commander, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bell, said the arrests are testament to the hard work of police.

Many of the suspected dealers were women in their 20s.

One police video shows the moment a suspected cocaine dealer complained about being arrested.

The woman protested while an officer led her handcuffed to a paddy wagon in Bondi two weeks ago.

She said 'I don't really appreciate this' before the policeman shut her down by responding 'well, you shouldn't be involved in drug supply then should you?'
