GREATER NOIDA: The
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (
YEIDA) is set to develop ‘smart villages’ along the lines of urban sectors, with facilities such as sewage, drainage, roads, drinking water, electricity, optical fiber for telephone and cable connectivity, among others.
Over the next three years, a total of 29 ‘smart villages’ — acquired between 2009 and 2011 — will be developed.
As part of the first phase of Master Plan 1, 10 villages will be developed at a cost of Rs 80 crore (or Rs 8 crore per village) in the current financial year. These have been identified and are located along the Yamuna Expressway, where YEIDA had conducted a drone survey.
Starting July, work will first begin on five villages — Acheja Buzurg, Rampur Bangar, Dungarpur Reelka, Nilloni Shahpur and Chandpur.
At present, these villages do not have any drainage or drinking water facilities. While inhabitants depend on groundwater for their daily needs, sewage is mostly dumped in open spaces across the village.
YEIDA hopes to develop these villages on the lines of urban sectors, as commercial activity is expected to rise once
Jewar airport becomes operational.
“A detailed project report (DPR) for the five villages has been done and work will begin soon. DPRs for another five villages are underway. Together these 10 villages will be made into
smart villages for this financial year,” YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh told TOI.
Singh maintained that so far no village in Greater Noida has been developed like this. “We hired 2-3 private agencies to study the villages. A DPR has been made which includes miniscule details like where the sewer lines are required, which area in the village will have a healthcare centre, how much population the village has, education facilities, ponds, cremation ground, place of worship and road connectivity,” said Singh.
