AMBALA:
Two heavy vehicles caught fire after a collision on
Grand Trunk Road near
Ambala city vegetable market in
Haryana on Wednesday morning, while both the drivers escaped unhurt.
On receiving the information, fire tenders were rushed to the spot along with the district police. The fire was so severe that the police had to stop the traffic on one side of the highway fearing blast in the tanker, till the fire was doused off.
As per the information, an oil tanker of
Gopal Oil Carrier Private Limited company and a vehicle loaded with plywood were on their way to Punjab from Ambala, when due to a collision, the tanker caught fire, while the oil which leaked from the tanker got spread and the canter caught fire as well.
It has come to notice that the other vehicle lost control as its tire burst, following which it hit the oil tanker but exact reasons will be ascertained once the drivers disclose the facts, said Ambala headquarters DSP Sultan Singh.
DSP Singh said, “On receiving the information, our teams reached the spot and with the help of firemen the fire was controlled. The vehicles have been removed from the highway and traffic is running normally now. So far it is not clear that due to whose negligence the collision took place as the drivers of both the vehicles have fled the spot. The owners of the vehicles contacted us and they are putting the blame on each other.”
The firemen worked under the guidance of fire officer Amar Singh and the fire was controlled with the help of foam instead of water as it was flammable ethanol, and there was always a chance of blast. Amar said, “We used a chemical which converts water into foam to control the fire in the oil tanker. It took around two hours to control the fire and five fire brigades have been used in this task.”
