BHOPAL: Speculation about the next Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief swirled around in party circles on Tuesday as AICC general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia cancelled his rallies in MP for the day, apparently because Congress chief
Rahul Gandhi had asked him to stay back in Delhi.
Three days ago, Deepak Babaria, AICC general secretary in charge of MP, had said that a new PCC chief would be appointed within a month, but state Congress leaders differ. They say the change will begin at the top, starting with the
Congress Working Committee, and will take time to trickle down to the state.
“Change is imminent after the party’s debacle in the Lok Sabha election, but the rout is pan-India,” a senior state PCC office-bearer said. “Modifications will be made but they will start with CWC. Till then,
Kamal Nath will continue to hold both the office of CM and of state party president,” he added. Congress has another aspirant for the post of PCC president — former state chief Arun Yadav may also be in the running for an encore.
