HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh chief minister-designate YS Jaganmohan Reddy has cleared the name of S Sriram to be appointed as the state’s new advocate general. Jaganmohan Reddy has also cleared name of advocates to be appointed as law officers in his regime, which will come into force on May 30.
Apart from Sriram, Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy was reportedly selected for the post of additional advocate general. I Koti Reddy would be the public prosecutor, while several were selected for government pleaders.

On the recommendation of the state government, the governor would appoint the advocate general. All these appointments would be made shortly after the new regime takes over on May 30.
Sriram’s name first came to the fore in May 2009 when then-CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy chose senior counsel D V Sitarama Murthy as advocate general. Sitaram Murthy had agreed to take over as the new AG on a condition that Sriram should be appointed as a special counsel attached to the AG’s office. When things were not happening as was sought, the AG was reluctant to take up the assignment. Then, after coming to know about the issue, Rajasekhara Reddy himself intervened and allowed Murthy to form his team.
