Thane: The HSC
pass percentage in lake city slipped to a new low this year, as just a clutch of colleges could secure a 100 per cent pass rate in Class 12 exams.
The
HSC results were announced by the Maharashtra State Board on Tuesday.
Though more than 16,000 students cleared their exams that were held in March, the overall pass rate of
Thane city remained 82 per cent which is lesser when compared to the last four years high of 85 per cent.
The girl students stole a march over boys as the pass percentage of girls was around 87.13 per cent while that of the boys was around 77.59 per cent. There was approximately a difference of around 10 per cent. The experts state that even though the statistics show this difference one cannot say that boys do not work harder.
Some colleges in the city did manage to achieve 100 cent percent passing result.
Parmeshwar Gatkal, principal of Shubham Raje Junior College, “We have been consistently having a 100 per cent pass percentage since 2009 and it is possible because of the sheer hard work of the teachers and the students.
Each teacher is given around 20 students for guidance and we make sure that around 90 per cent syllabus gets completed by the first semester. Then it’s just focusing on revision and making the students solve question papers of the past 10 years.”
“It is time that the teaching and learning system changes. This generation is hooked on to their phones and social media and hence it becomes the duty of the teachers to not only guide them but also become their counsellors. The competition between boys and girls is like the story of the turtle and hare. We cannot say that the boys don’t work hard but some of them do have an easy going attitude, they tend to use shortcuts etc.
But teachers are equally responsible for the students results and they alone cannot be blamed,” said R.J.Rajput, principal of MH high school and junior college.
