KANPUR: Close on the heels of the murder of BJP worker and former village head Surendra Singh in Amethi, the village head of Gadhewa Mosimpur in Bidhnoo and three others were injured in an attack at Nyuri village crossing late on Sunday night.
The village head, Indrapal Paswan, was returning home from Naubasta on a two-wheeler, police said.
“As soon as Indrapal reached Nyuri village crossing, he was allegedly beaten up by Kallu, Vikas, Mohit, Sanu and Rohit with ‘lathis’ over poll-related enmity.
When Kunwar Pal, Kishan Pal and Sandeep tried to intervene, they too were beaten up by the assailants. All the injured have been admitted to a nearby health centre, from where Indrapal was referred to a hospital, the police said.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 147, 148, 149, 323 and 504 of IPC, said SHO Bidhnoo Anurag Singh. All the accused are on the run.
The accused had threatened Indrapal, a BJP supporter, with dire consequences during the Lok Sabha elections as he had refused to support the ‘gathbandhan’ candidate”, the SHO added.
