CHANDIGARH: After a cockroach was found in a burger at the Gopal Sweet Shop located in Sector 8 in Chandigarh on Monday, the health officials immediately ordered an enquiry. Also, they have decided to conduct checks at odd hours in other food joints in the city.
A complaint and a photograph of the burger was sent to the health officials on Tuesday afternoon. The photograph showed that the burger had a dead cockroach embedded inside the wrapped bread. The amount for the burger was immediately refunded, though.
"We will ensure that no such incident is reported next time. We called the pest control immediately today. Also, we will routinely inspect the cleanliness of the surrounding in the kitchen area," said Sharanjit Singh, owner of the food joint.

Last year, a consumer disputes redressal forum had issued notice to Gopal Sweets in Sector 35 for selling fungus-infected cakes.
The health officials who have been conducting random checks took cognizance of the complaint. "The licensee had to ensure that conditions of the license are followed. In routine we carry inspections. The consumers can call our enquiry 102," said Dr G Dewan, director of health services, UT.
