Complaint against travel agency for duping LIC agents

Tirupur: A group of LIC agents has lodged police complaints against a private travel agency in the city that allegedly cheated them of Rs 1crore by promising to arrange tours to Malaysia and Singapore.
As many as 64 complainants had approached the travel agency on Avinashi Road and entered into an oral contract to tour southeast Asian countries, said V Manikandan, district secretary of the LIC Agents Association. “Thirty-four of us visited the places and returned. As per schedule given by the agency, the second batch consisting of 30 people should have left on May 28. But when they went to the travel agency office on Monday to get visas, they found the office closed. They also tried to meet Manikandan, the owner of the agency at his house, but couldn’t. His mobile phone was not reachable.”

They came to know that Manikandan had cheated several others in the guise of organising foreign tours, they said.
The Tirupur north police are investigating.
