NEW DELHI: The government has made detailed preparation for temporary accommodation of around 340
MPs, who have been elected and were not members of the
16th Lok Sabha.
Sources said the government will have zero tolerance against any former MP overstaying in official accommodations beyond the permitted grace period of one month so that these can be made available to newly elected lawmakers.
Sources said to meet the requirement of new MPs, 110 transit accommodation have been identified in the Western Court complex and the rest would be made available in the state bhavans.
They added that the
Lok Sabha secretariat will decide the allotment for newly elected MPs. “We hope that the MPs who could not win will adhere to the norm of vacating their accommodation in one month. That will help us to allot the bungalow and flats quickly,” said an official.
Former lawmakers blatantly violating this norm had been the main cause of many first time MPs staying for months in state bhavans and hotels. The
NDA government had changed rules to levy steep penalty for anyone overstaying in government accommodation.
