Polish man held with drugs, aide flees

Gurgaon: A 28-year-old Polish national was arrested on Sunday from DLF 1 for his alleged involvement in drug peddling. However, his accomplice managed to escape. Police have recovered 345g opium and over 4kg heroine from Patryk Dziwinski, who was staying in India without a visa or passport.
Dziwinski told police that he was a musician and that his friend Kaji was a resident of Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. Police said on Sunday evening, Dziwinski and Kaji were loitering near Qutub Plaza in DLF 1 carrying two bags. Growing suspicious of their activity, police asked them to stop for a search but Kaji fled, leaving his accomplice with the bags that contained drugs.

During the interrogation, Dziwinski told police that he had come to India eight months ago on a tourist visa. He used to perform in parties in Delhi and nearby areas where, police said, he had easy access to drugs. “The accused said he got to know about the cheap availability of drugs in parts of Himachal Pradesh and went to Kullu looking for the same. There, he met 29-year-old Kaji who had run out of money and asked Dziwinski to sell drugs with him. They came to Gurgaon and started selling drugs here. Dziwinski has not produced a valid visa or passport,” said ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh Dahiya.
Dziwinski and Kaji have been booked under sections 18 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the DLF 1 police station. Dziwinski has also been booked under Section 14 (staying in India after the expiry of visa) of the Foreigners Act. On Monday, he was produced in a city court that sent him to judicial custody. Police are now conducting raids to nab Kaji. “It is not clear where Dziwinski and Kaji were staying in Gurgaon. We are searching for Kaji, and he will be arrested soon,” said Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
