  • She said she had to take a moment to make sure she wasn't dreaming the snake

A woman who was recovering from a late night flight awoke to the feeling of something 'flicking her face' - but when she opened her eyes she didn't expect to see a snake.

Sally Stent, from Brisbane, returned home at 2am and went to catch up on some sleep, not knowing a python was in her room.

After five hours of being blissfully unaware of the snake's presence, Ms Stent was awoken, The Courier Mail reported.

'I opened my eyes and the snake was a couple of centimetres from my face looking at me. It was 5-10cm from my face. I had to focus my eyeballs to see it. It was right in there,' she told the publication.

The python was hanging off her bedside lamp and had put its head right in front of Ms Stent's face.

She said even she was surprised with her reaction. Instead of jumping or screaming, Ms Stent calmly climbed from her bed and left the room.

Her father was also home at the time but Ms Stent said she had to broach the revelation carefully, knowing her father would react much worse than her.

She first made him a cup of tea and lulled him into a sense of calm before she dropped the bombshell on him.

'I said ''by the way, there’s a snake in my bedroom''. It took him 15 minutes to calm down and by that time, the snake had disappeared, and he thought I’d made it up,' she said.

Once her father had calmed down they contacted a local snake catcher who managed to find the reptile again and take it away.

Ms Stent said the handler told her the snake had more than likely made its way into the house to find a safe place to digest its last meal.

Some windows in her house did not have protective coverings beyond the glass, something Ms Stent rectified right away.

'I have flyscreens now on every window in the house. I was a bit too cool for flyscreens before but now I’m not,' she said.
