City trekker undergoes surgery in Doon, critical

Dehradun: A 22-year-old female trekker from Nagpur, who got injured after being hit on the head by a boulder during Gangotri-Tapovan trekking expedition, underwent surgery in Dehradun-based Kailash Hospital on Tuesday.
Yamini Temurnikar, 22, had gone on the trek with her friends and the incident took place near Gangotri glacier when they were returning from Tapovan on Friday.
The support staff accompanying the team had then rushed her to a hospital in Uttarkashi from where she was referred to a higher facility in Dehradun.
Talking to TOI, an official of Kailash Hospital, who didn’t wish to be named, said that the girl had suffered excessive blood loss and there was clotting in her head. “She underwent brain surgery because of blood clotting and is admitted to the ICU. The next 24 hours are very critical for her,” he said.
Her family members, including her mother, father and elder brother, have reached Dehradun to be with Yamini. However, they refused to talk to media about the incident.

Yamini, who did her graduation from Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) was also the president of the marketing society of the college. A former member of SRCC, requesting anonymity, said that Yamini is a confident girl with a soft corner for nature.
Trekking agency owner Mukesh Panwar, who had organized the expedition, told TOI, “The support staff with the trekking group had administered instant first aid to the girl soon after the incident, which saved her life. After reaching Bhojwasa base camp, we also tried to airlift her, but failed due to bad weather conditions. However, we managed to admit her to a hospital on time but doctors referred her to higher facility as precautionary measures.”
