HYDERABAD: Panjagutta police have booked a
cheating case against evangelist-cum-politician,
KA Paul, for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 2 lakh by promising to recommend her for a US visa.
Satyavati Katragadda, 54, a businesswoman from Ashok Nagar near RC Puram, lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police on Tuesday, alleging that on April 22, 2019, she contacted KA Paul asking for his help in securing a US visa.
“As per the advise of KA Paul, I met him and his associates, Jyothi and Vijay, at his office-cum-house at Lal Bunglow in
Ameerpet on May 7. Paul spoke to me and portrayed himself as a very powerful person in the US. Paul also said that his sponsorship letters to the US Embassy would help me in getting a visit visa to the US and demanded Rs 15 lakh. After some bargain, Paul asked me to give at least Rs 2 lakh immediately. Accordingly, I handed over a DCB bank cheque for Rs 2 lakh in the name of Jyothy on May 8,” the complainant alleged.
The cheque was encashed by the accused. “After that, whenever I called Paul to expedite the process, his associate, Vijay, spoke to me, saying that Paul would be busy till May 23, the day the election results were announced,” the complainant added.
After failing to contact Paul, the complainant tried calling Jyothi. “As Jyothi had blocked my number, I lodged a complaint with police,” the complainant said.
Police have booked a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC. No arrests have been made yet.
