13 injured as KSRTC bus collides with truck

Accident occurred on Yelahanka flyover on airport road

Thirteen passengers sustained minor injuries when the KSRTC bus they were travelling in rammed into a cement-laden truck on the flyover near Jakkur aerodrome at Yelahanka during the early hours of Tuesday. Traffic was disrupted for some time due to the accident.

The bus driver, Nanda Kumar, 32, also sustained minor injuries and was discharged after getting first aid at a private hospital.

According to the police, the bus was coming from Ananthpur and was heading to Majestic. The driver failed to notice the truck, which was moving at a slow pace on the lane meant for fast-moving vehicles. The bus rammed into the tuck. The front portion of the bus was completely damaged.

Passers-by rushed to help and shifted the injured to nearby private hospitals where doctors discharged them after treatment.

Based on a complaint by one of the passengers, Katamma Reddy, 23, the Yelahanka traffic police have taken up a case against the bus driver charging him with rash and negligent driving. The police have also booked a case against the truck driver Sudarshan for negligence.

This is the second accident to be reported in that stretch of the road in the last 24 hours. On Monday, five members of a family were killed when their car collided with an ambulance near Venkatala bus stop in Kogilu at Yelahanka. The ambulance was headed from the city towards Devanahalli when the driver lost control. The vehicle jumped the divider and collided with the car.
