Amethi colleges to be affiliated with Ayodhya based RML Awadh University

Representational ImageLUCKNOW: Less than a week after wresting Amethi from Congress in the Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP on Tuesday announced getting the district colleges affiliated with the Ayodhya based Ram Manohar Lohia University. Until now, the colleges in Amethi are affiliated with the Kanpur based Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj university. The decision was taken by the state cabinet headed by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
The move comes close on the heels of the BJP candidate Smriti Irani defeating Congress president Rahul Gandhi in his stronghold of Amethi.
State government spokesperson and cabinet minister Siddharthnath Singh said that the decision has been taken in view of the large distance between Amethi and Kanpur which is around 250 Kms. "Affiliating the colleges with Ram Manohar Lohia university would allow the distance to come down to around 90 Kms. "This will help in better coordination with the colleges in Amethi," Singh said, while speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting.
