PUNE: Two autorickshaw drivers were arrested on Monday for gang-raping a 22-year-old woman on a hill near Pisoli on Saturday evening.
An offence has been registered against the suspects for
gang rape and other charges under the relevant sections of the
Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the woman lodged a complaint against the duo with the Kondhwa police.
The woman is a widow. She has been living with her mother in
Hadapsar since her husband passed away.
One of the suspects was her friend. He had introduced her to the second suspect.
On May 25, the second suspect went to her residence and asked her to come with him to her friend’s house. “The suspect had claimed that her friend was suffering from some problems and needed to meet her at his residence,” the woman stated in her complaint she lodged with the Kondhwa police.
The
First Information Report (FIR) states, “In the evening, the woman, along with the two suspects, rode triple seat on a two-wheeler. After they rode up to the hill, the duo started thrashing her.”
“After beating her up, they forced her to consume liquor. The suspects then gang-raped her and allowed her to leave,” the FIR states.
Sub-inspector Pandurang Deokate of the Kondhwa police said, “The woman was taken for a medical test at a government-run hospital. At present, we are awaiting the test reports.”
Deokate added that police personnel escorted the women to the hill to identify the exact spot where the suspects gang-raped her. “She could not show us the exact spot. Further investigations are under way,” he said.
