Delays of at least 29 minutes were expected at O’Hare and delays of about 30 minutes were expected at Midway.

Any severe storms that developed in this system would bring golf ball-sized hail, wind gusts of up to 70 mph, torrential downpours, lightning and possibly even tornadoes. The storms are expected to weaken by around midnight.

Temperature highs varied depending on the location on Monday. Along the lakefront, highs will sit in the mid to upper 50s, but inland temperatures will reach into the 70s. Some locations south of Interstate 80 could see temperatures in the 80s.

Another round of potentially severe evening storms will be possible Tuesday.

O’Hare Intl. Airport tweeted “Airlines at O’Hare have canceled more than 500 flights today due to heavy rain in the area.  Delays av. 1.5  hours.  Check with your airline for flight status.”
