Woman’s head severed in industrial elevator

Vadodara: A 48-year-old woman’s head was severed in an elevator of a plastic products manufacturing company in Sardar Estate on Ajwa Road on Monday.
Sushila Vishwakarma, who lived in Kamlanagar on Ajwa Road, was employed as a sanitation help. At around 8am, Vishwakarma reached the factory as per her schedule and was working on the ground floor. After completing work on the ground floor, she took an elevator, which was used for products and other heavy material, to go to the fourth floor. While the elevator was ascending, she knelt against the railing of the elevator and looked down. As the elevator was approached the upper floor, Vishwakarma’s head got stuck between the slab of the floor and the elevator and got immediately detached from her body. Since it was an industrial elevator and was used for products, it was open from above.
When she was in the elevator, Vishwakarma was either listening to songs through earphones or was talking to someone on her phone. But as her head got detached the earphones remained in her ears and got disconnected from the phone which was left behind in her hand.

Four factory workers, who were present there, saw the incident and informed police about it. However, none of them know why Vishwakarma looked downwards even as the elevator was approaching the floor.
Later a case of accidental death was registered at Bapod police station and Vishwakarma’s relatives in Uttar Pradesh were informed about it. Cops said that she was living alone in the city and was working as sanitation help in other units too at Sardar Estate.
