Mamata sets up panel to probe vandalising of Vidyasagar bust

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday set up a committee to probe the vandalism of the bust of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar at the Vidyasagar College in the city during BJP president Amit Shah’s road show on May 14.

The committee would be headed by Home Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay with Kolkata Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police Jawed Shamin and Principal of the college Gautam Kundu as members. So far two FIRs had been lodged and 35 persons arrested.

Ms. Banerjee also reshuffled the bureaucracy and the police appointing Mr. Bandyopadhyay as the Home Secretary and Gyanwant Singh, Commissioner of Biddhanagar City Police, as the Additional DGP (Law and Order). Many district Magistrates in south Bengal were also transferred.
