Mumbai: Fire in truck carrying diesel at Goregaon, disaster averted

Fire officials requested the BPCL personnel to decant the tank.
MUMBAI: A blaze erupted in a truck carrying 20,000 litres of diesel at Goregaon on Monday morning about 9.53am. However, the tank containing diesel did not catch the fire and a major tragedy was averted, said Mumbai chief fire officer PS Rahangdale. "If the diesel tank in the truck had caught fire, it could have led to a major disaster," he said.
The truck was going from Goregaon towards Borivali when the incident occurred.

Fire brigade personnel who reached the spot had to jump through the road divider to reach the truck carrying the tank and extinguish the initial flames.

Fire officials later requested the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) personnel to decant the tank.
Traffic was affected on Western Express Highway at Goregaon due to the fire. Vehicles were diverted below the bridge near Oberoi Mall.
