Delhi-bound train runs over elderly man

Ludhiana: A train ran over an elderly man while he was crossing the tracks at Bhattian railway crossing on Saturday evening.
Balihar Singh, a native of Jalandhar district, worked as a domestic help in Bhattian village.
Government Railway Police (GRP) assistant sub-inspector Sukhminder Singh said, “Documents found on the body helped establish its identity. The super fast train was going to Delhi when it hit Balihar, who was in his sixties. He was on way home from his workplace. This crossing is unmanned.”
Soon after the accident, the driver stopped the train and sounded the Government Railway Police control room.

Government Railway Police post in-charge Balbir Singh said, “Despite several awareness drives, cases of death due to trespassing are on the rise. Soon, we will start another such drive, urging people not to cross tracks at unmanned railway crossings.”
The police initiated inquest proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC after handing over the body to Balihar’s family.
