New 2020 Audi S6 Avant Will Make You Yearn For A Big, Diesel Wagon

In today’s SUV-infested market, one would think there’s little, if any, room left for estates, especially fast ones powered by diesel engines. Yet Audi is a big believer that such cars might still have future ahead of them – and who are we to disagree?

Case in point, the new S6 Avant. In Europe, it comes with… you guessed it, a diesel. The 3.0-liter V6 TDI delivers 349 PS (344 hp / 257 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, to the Quattro all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 100 km/h (62 mph) mark is reached in 5.1 seconds, identical to the S7 Sportback that uses the same mill, but 0.1 seconds slower than the S6 Sedan. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) in all three models. Not only is the 2020 S6 Avant pretty fast and spacious, it’s also frugal. According to Audi, the speedy estate  returns a combined fuel consumption of 6.5 l/100 km (equal to 44.5 mpg UK / 36.2 mpg US) and emits 171 g/km of CO2.

As you already know, the S6 Avant, S6 Sedan and S7 aren’t available over in the States with the low-revving engine. Instead, America, along with Asia and the Middle East, gets the 2.9-liter TFSI V6, a gasoline lump sourced from the RS4 and RS5.
