VARANASI:
Narendra Modi, who will on May 30 take oath as India’s Prime Minister for a second consecutive term, offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Monday along with BJP national president
Amit Shah in the presence of chief minister
Yogi Adityanath.
The PM-designate offered a garland made out of 107 lotuses to the reigning deity, Lord
Shiva. Outside the holy premises, he was like a demigod himself whom serpentine queues of supporters were waiting to meet.
It was Modi’s first visit to his parliamentary constituency after his landslide victory in the
Lok Sabha elections. He was welcomed by governor Ram Naik and CM Yogi at the Police Lines helipad. As his motorcade moved towards the temple, he was greeted by common people with BJP flags and
saffron balloons. Folk artistes from different parts of the state performed along the 7km route.
At the temple, priests greeted Modi with chants of Vedic mantras. Along with Shah, the PM-designate performed rudrabhishek under the guidance of five priests led by president of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust Acharya Ashok Dwivedi. After the puja, the priests felicitated them with rudraksh garlands and shawls.
