The GHMC Town Planning wing has embarked on an operation to identify dilapidated structures in the city to take suitable measures ahead of monsoon.
Town Planning officials of the respective circles have been given the deadline up to June 10 to identify such buildings, after which notices will be issued to the owners.
Depending on the risk estimation, residents will either be evacuated or asked to carry out repairs to avoid possible collapse, officials informed. Those dangerously close to collapse will be demolished.
Officials had identified close to 2,000 such structures last year, and demolished a few of them. The remaining too will be evaluated afresh for their condition, officials said.
Exercise is also on to identify the heritage structures on the verge of collapse, most of them located in the core part of the city consisting of Charminar, Khairatabad and Secunderabad zones.
Vendors and residents occupying the heritage structures will be asked to vacate the premises during monsoons to avoid any untoward incident, as the officials do not have permission to demolish them.
Meanwhile, GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore has asked the officials to ensure completion of nala desilting works before June 7. So far, only 50 % of the work is through, with 411 kilometres completed of the 801 kilometres length.
During a review meeting on Monday, Mr. Dana Kishore also said works have been completed at 37 of the total identified 147 water stagnation points in the city. He asked officials to make alternative arrangements at the remaining 110 points.
