25-yr-old arrested for driving stolen car in Sector 39

CHANDIGARH: A 25-year-old man, identified as Manpreet singh (alias Mavi) of Sector 38, Chandigarh, has been arrested for driving a stolen car with fake registration number plate. The man was nabbed at the dividing road of Sectors 39 and 40.
According to the cops, the accused stole a Hyundai Verna from Sector 19. "With his arrest, one case of auto theft has been solved. The accused was produced in a court, which remanded him in custody. We will quiz him to find his involvement in other cases," cops said.
Officials of Sector 39 police station had laid a naka to keep an eye on snatchers and anti-social elements and check motorists on Saturday night. Meanwhile, they saw the accused approaching naka in the stolen car. Cops stopped him at the checkpost and asked him to show the documents of the car. The accused could not produce the documents of the car. When the cops checked the registration number of the car, they discovered that it was fake. The cops then arrested the accused and impounded the car.

During his interrogation at Sector 39 police station, the accused confessed that he had stolen the car from Sector 19 on May 11, 2019.
Cops said that the accused was a drug addict. "Manpreet was also arrested by Sector 39 police under NDPS Act in 2016. The case is still pending in a court. To fulfil his drug addiction, the accused committed the crime," said the investigation officer of the case.
