Musk’s The Boring Company Wins Contract To Build Las Vegas Loop

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has won a contract to build a Loop system in Las Vegas.

The Verge reports that the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority voted on The Boring Company’s proposal on Wednesday where they approved the $48.6 million contract.

The Loop system will be constructed specifically for the Las Vegas Convention Center and “provide fast and convenient transportation for convention and trade show attendees across the LVCC campus. Dubbed the LVCC Loop, The Boring Company’s project will include two tunnels for vehicles as well as three stations and a pedestrian tunnel.

The company says that it typically takes attendees at the Las Vegas Convention Center up to 15 minutes to walk between the New Exhibit Hall in the Northwest of the expansive complex and the North/Central Hall in the middle of the site. The LVCC Loop trip between these two sits will take approximately 1 minute.

The closest The Boring Company has got to previewing what its Loop will be like is a test tunnel unveiled in Los Angeles late last year featuring a Tesla Model X running on specially-design tracks through a tunnel. The firm says the finished Loop will house autonomous Model 3 and Model X vehicles as well as “high-occupancy AEVs” which use a modified Model X chassis to transport up to 16 passengers at a time.

Future expansions to the Las Vegas Loop system are being considered by the company to include services down the famous Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas Stadium, McCarran International Airport, and even a service to Los Angeles.
