Government leans on Supreme Court to stop Nine News Perth story airing

The State Government has sought a last-minute injunction in the Supreme Court on Monday evening to stop the publication of a story on Nine News Perth.

In a rare move, the State Solicitor's Office received the order from Justice Curthoys one hour before the report was due to run on the network's 6pm news bulletin.

The network described the story as "relating to the safety of residents in Perth".

The injunction prevents anyone from revealing details of the story, but reporter Michael Genovese said the station planned to fight the order.

"It's an interesting and rare move for the government to make, effectively keeping, what we here at Nine News believe to be important information about public safety, a secret, for now," Genovese said.

"This has been a long running investigation and we'll keep trying to bring you this story because we believe it is in the public interest."
