Coimbatore: Police on Monday detained a 24-year-old Velliangadu resident, who allegedly poisoned her three-year-old daughter to death with the help of her lover on Sunday. The duo dumped the body near the Murugan temple at Karattumedu, police sources said.
Police identified the victim as Devasri, daughter of Paulraj, a Velliangadu-based labourer. “The girl’s mother P Rubini had separated from Paulraj one year ago and was staying with her daughter in another house at Velliangadu. She had befriended Tamil, 28, of Kovilpalayam, who was working as a location manager. Tamil had met Rubini while scouting for locations near the Pillur dam a few months ago. They fell in love and Tamil promised to take care of her and her daughter,” a police officer said.
Rubini had visited Karattumedu on Sunday with Devasri to meet Tamil. “Fearing that the girl may cause hindrance to their relationship, they decided to kill her. They duo gave the girl biscuits laced with poison. After she died, they dumped the body among bushes near the Murugan temple,” the officer told TOI.
Morning walkers, who noticed the body on Sunday, had alerted Saravanampatti police. “Rubini also reached the spot and told police that Tamil had left with her daughter on Sunday evening. She said his mobile number was not reachable and she was searching for her daughter. When we questioned her, she gave contradictory answers. She was taken to the Saravanampatti police station. She confessed to the crime during interrogation,” the officer added.
Police have formed three special teams to nab Tamil.
