Bhopal: A case of mob lynching was reported in Seoni where eight members of Shri Ram Sena thrashed three persons for carrying beef on May 22. Police arrested the assailants as well as the victims of the attack. The incident occurred on Mandla Road under Dunda Seoni police station limits. A group of cow vigilantes had allegedly beaten up two men with sticks and then forced one of them to thrash a woman accompanying them with chappals, a police officer said. SHO of Dunda Seoni police station Ganpat Singh Uike said that they had arrested three persons including a woman for carrying beef in an auto-rickshaw and one Scooty on May 22. The police conducted the sample and found that it was beef. The police registered a case against them and sent them to jail.

On May 23, a video went viral on social media and sister of one of the accused, Dilip Malvi reached the police station and handed over the video. The police identified the accused of the case and registered a case against eight accused who had thrashed the trio. He said that the accused had threatened the victims that if they reported the matter to the police they would be killed. Fearing their life,

the trio did not inform the police about the happening. Later, the police arrested five persons Shubam Baghel, Rohit Yadav, Yogesh Uike, Dipesh Namdev and Jamlal Daheria. The accused have been booked under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 294 (obscene act), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 34 (act done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Arms Act. The trio, who have been booked under the MP Govansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, were produced before a local court on May 23 which sent them to judicial custody. The photograph of Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur with Shubam went viral on the social media. The photograph is said to be recently taken during the Lok Sabha elections. Shubam is said to be a habitual offender and police had arrested him earlier for mob lynching case.
