Thiruvananthapuram: Here is some good news for fishermen, who spearheaded the rescue operations during the floods last year. They now have a chance to lend their skills to the state police by joining the coastal police. The police department is recruiting special marine home guards on a temporary basis at the newly inaugurated coastal police stations at Poovar and Anchuthengu to man their rescue boats.
There are eight vacancies of special marine home guards at present. Candidates with a minimum education of Class VII and experience in five years of work in the deep sea with skill and experience in rescue operations are preferred. The candidate must have a minimum height of five-and-a-half feet and the age should be below 24 years. The monthly salary for the post is Rs 19,280.
The department is also looking to recruit qualified men to the posts of boat commander and assistant boat commander to the new coastal police stations. For this, the department is looking to recruit from retired personnel of Navy, Indian
Coast Guard or Border Security Force's water wing. They should also have either Kerala Minor Mariner Ports' master driver licence or Mercantile Marine Department's licence. Besides, the applicants for the post of boat commander must have at least five years’ experience in helming the boat and three years’ experience for assistant boat commander. The age should be below 50 years. The salary for boat commander is Rs 28,385 and assistant boat commander is Rs 27, 010. At present two vacancies exist in each of these categories.
The selection will be based on a physical test which involves 500m swimming. Women and differently-abled persons are not eligible to apply.
All applications must reach the office of the district police chief (rural) near PMG on or before June 12, 2019. Applications can be sent via post or submitted in person.
