Sushma seeks report after German Padma Shri awardee denied visa extension

AGRA: Taking cognisance of the TOI report “Denying visa extension, German Padma Shri awardee threatens to return award,” outgoing External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, has sought report from the MEA.
In a tweet to TOI she said, “thanks for bringing this to my notice. I have asked for a report”.

Friederike Irina Bruning (61), who was awarded the Padma Shri for cow protection this year, had on Saturday threatened to return her reward after her application for visa extension for further stay in India has been rejected by the MEA.

Talking to TOI, Bruning, alias Sudevi has stated that there was no point in keeping the award when she cannot stay here and continue the work that she had started for protection of sick cows. She said that she had applied for extension of her visa, but the same was rejected by MEA’s Lucknow office and no reason was given by them. She said that her visa is due to expire on June 25.
Sudevi had also stated that she would be contacting local officials in Mathura to know what should be done next. Expressing her utter disappointment at the turn of events she said that she had been left with no option but to return the reward if her visa extension is denied.
