The demise of the Big Brother House: How abandoned Gold Coast mansion has turned into a wasteland after reality TV show was cancelled

  • The abandoned Big Brother mansion has become a shadow of its former self
  • It is plagued by graffiti, windows are smashed and walls have been torn down
  • Iconic locations like the pool have been reclaimed by nature and are overgrown
  • Big Brother was a titan of Australian reality TV before it was cancelled in 2014

Australia's Big Brother House has become a derelict and vandalised mansion in the five years since the reality television show was cancelled.

Urban explorer Scott took viewers on a tour of the abandoned set, blocked off from the public in a corner of the Dreamworld amusement park on the Gold Coast

Iconic locations like the pool are infected with algae and overgrown with weeds sprouting through cracks in the concrete.

The reality TV set is plagued with obscene graffiti, windows have been smashed and some walls have been torn down.

Exploring the set reveals the tricks producers used to hide cameras and capture all of the raunchy moments inside the house.

The house has been gutted of anything valuable such as appliances and furniture.

Piping is visible where sinks and toilets once were while mirrors and windows have been smashed by vandals.

Big Brother contestants would once gather for special meals by the pool, which is now a stagnant pond.

The video revealed one-way mirrors and glass panels hid cameras that were able to secretly record action inside most areas of the house.

'You don't seem to think when you watch the show that all the mirrors were where all the camera men were filming from,' explorer Scott said in the video.

'Everywhere you look there's glass panels - it would have been a strange feeling.'

Big Brother's bathrooms are one of the hardest hit locations with smashed glass all over the floor and vulgar tagging across the walls.

The female bedroom which was home to raunchy scenes, scandalous gossip and cat fights now looks like a spooky empty space.

Its pink and white stripy wallpaper is peeling off and strewn with graffiti.

Wallpapers of clouds, birds and bright patterns are a throwback to the 2000s when such decorations were acceptable - but would be considered tacky today.

The diary room where contestants would moan about each other hosted some of the most shocking moments on the show.

Now it looks rather underwhelming, with only its recognisable cloud wallpaper to set it apart.

The sanctuary was once a getaway reward for contestants to escape the drama of the rest of the house complete with a mini pool, deck chairs and potted plants.

A smaller pool is also green with algae, the surrounding concrete tiles are being usurped by weeds and the area is complete with ironic graffiti art of a flower.
