Gurgaon: A victory margin of nearly 3.86 lakh
votes might have once again established Gurgaon MP Rao
Inderjit Singh’s popularity in this constituency but
Mewat will remain a concern for the ruling party.
Out of nine assembly constituencies under the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat, three — Nuh, Ferozepur Jhirka and Punhana — are in the Muslim-dominated district. And in these three assembly segments, the BJP candidate polled less than one-third of the votes as compared to his Congress rival Capt Ajay Yadav. In the Nuh assembly constituency, the Congress candidate had a lead of 47,858 votes over Inderjit. Yadav got 82,116 votes here whereas Inderjit got 34,258 votes. In Ferozepur Jhirka, the Congress candidate got 1,08,324 votes and Inderjit polled only 26,466 votes. Similarly, in Punhana, Yadav secured 81,125 votes while the BJP candidate managed only 22,045 votes.
In the overall tally, Inderjit got 8.81 lakh votes while Yadav got 4.95 lakh votes. Inderjit also broke his own record of defeating INLD candidate Zakir Hussain by a margin of 2.74 lakh votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
On Friday, a day after the Lok Sabha results were declared, Yadav told TOI people of Mewat gave him a huge lead, hoping to see development in the region. He said that he would continue to fight for the rights of the people of Mewat. Inderjit, meanwhile, said said he would take up the pending projects like Ranney collector wells, Kotla lake and rail connectivity and Mewat would not be ignored in his tenure.
