EC likely to meet today to finalise list of winning candidates
With the last of the Lok Sabha election results pouring in yesterday, the Election Commission is likely to meet today to finalise the list of winning candidates to be handed over to President Ram Nath Kovind, sources said. (PTI)

After winning a historic mandate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet President Ram Nath Kovind later today. Earlier in the day, he met senior BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi at their residences.
Only one Left candidate manages to secure deposit in West Bengal
All but one Left Front candidate now have the ignominy of losing their security deposit in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, a state which it had ruled continuously for 34 years till 2011.
Except CPI(M)'s Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, who got 21.04 per cent of the votes polled in Jadavpur, no other Left candidate has been able to achieve the required 16.6 per cent of the votes to retain their deposit money of Rs 25,000 each, according to EC data.

The Karnataka government is reportedly on the brink after the Congress-JD(S) combine failed to consolidate a significant number of votes in the state. Even though former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah has ensured that there is no threat to the government.
An informal cabinet meeting has been called to take stock of the election results, incumbent Deputy Chief G Parameshwara said. In the press briefing, he said that all MLAs are together and there is no threat to the state government.

41,781 voters opted for NOTA in Haryana, maximum 7,943 in Ambala
Over 41,000 voters pressed the none of the above (NOTA) button in the Lok Sabha polls in Haryana where the ruling BJP won all 10 seats.
The share of NOTA in Haryana was 0.68 per cent of the total votes polled, as per the Election Commission data.
The maximum number of voters who opted for NOTA were in Ambala (7,943) while the least were in Bhiwani-Mahendergarh (2,041).
61/69: BJP score in three Hindi heartland states that Congress won five months ago
The BJP has won 61 of 65 Lok Sabha seats in the three Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan that the Congress won in the Assembly polls barely five months ago.
The saffron party has bagged 28 of 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh, 24 of 25 in Rajasthan and nine of 11 in Chhattisgarh.
The Congress, its main competitor, has been wiped out in the three states it governs.

BJP gets over 58% vote share in Rajasthan
The BJP, which won 24 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan where it had lost the 2018 assembly polls to the Congress, saw its vote share increase from 54.94 percent in 2014 to 58.5 percent in this general election.
The saffron party had contested on 24 seats and its ally Rastriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) on one seat, which it won.
The Congress, which could not win a single Lok Sabha constituency in the desert state, also witnessed an increase in vote share from 30.36 percent in 2014 to 34.2 percent this time, according to Election Commission data.
