The Standing Committee of Delhi University’s Admission Council, at a meeting earlier this week, decided that the varsity may release separate cut-off lists for different combinations of BA programmes in its colleges this year.
A committee member said an advisory will be issued to DU colleges, adding that releasing separate cut-off lists will, however, not be made compulsory for the colleges.
Rasal Singh, an elected member to the council, said that this is being done in order to promote enrolment in Modern Indian Language courses. These include languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Mr. Singh explained that students often apply for a BA in an MIL, but later switch to other courses. As a consequence very few students were enrolled in MIL courses. He also said that colleges will also be told that only those courses offered in the last three years should be allowed and that MIL disciplines may not be ceased.
The university will also be exploring the possibility of employing multiple payment gateways this year, including digital payment options. However, whether or not these will be implemented this year will depend on infrastructure capabilities, a source said.
Apart from this, entrance to BA music and physical education programmes will be based on student’s marks and not on auditions. Mr. Singh said that the decision was taken after receiving feedback from teachers and other stakeholders.
