PATNA: Governor-cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon has constituted a three-member advisory committee, headed by Patna University (PU) vice-chancellor (VC) Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, for suggesting improvements in the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) statutes in the light of the latest University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
Other members of the committee are Munger University VC Ranjit Kumar Verma and his Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University counterpart Leela Chandra Saha. The body has been told to submit its report within a fortnight.
According to a Raj Bhavan notification, the advisory committee is supposed to suggest necessary changes in the CAS statutes in the light of the 2018 UGC guidelines pertaining to maintenance of higher education standards. They provide some new conditions for appointment and promotion of teachers and other academic professionals, which need to be incorporated in the statutes meant for different universities of the state.
The CAS was implemented in the state with effect from 27 July, 1998 and the relevant statutes were issued by the chancellor’s secretariat in June, 2005.

“Once submitted to the chancellor, the advisory committee’s report will be sent to the VCs of all universities in the state for their suggestions. A final draft of the amended statutes will be placed before the chancellor for his assent,” said sources.
Patna College submits SSR: Patna College, the oldest institution of higher education in the state, uploaded its self-study report for assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council on Saturday, said college principal Rama Shankar Arya.
