Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has ruled out giving any space to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, and said Congress is the only alternative here.
The ‘unexpected impressive’ performance of the BJP that won four seats can no way be considered as its improved strength given the multiple factors that contributed to the situation, he said in an informal chat with the media persons here.
Mr. Reddy, who won from Nalgonda constituency defeating the TRS rival, said BJP lost deposits in 100 seats out of the 119 it contested in the recent Assembly elections. It is enough indication of its strength. Congress is the only party that has the power to ensure TRS’s defeat, he said.
At the same time the TRS also miscalculated the strength of the Congress but the results proved that it is a party with strong roots in Telangana, Mr. Reddy said. TRS is weakened and it isno more the strong party they claim to be.
He said all those who won from Congress are dynamic leaders and this would send positive vibes to the cadre who are raring to take on the government.
Taking a dig at the MLAs who defected to the ruling party, he said the Lok Sabha results proved that exit of few leaders doesn’t affect the party much. He felt they could have won six seats with little more effort. He reiterated that the Nalgonda local bodies MLC would be in Congress kitty and so would be the Zilla Parishad chairman positions in the combined Nalgonda district.
Meeting today
The party has called for a meeting of all senior leaders on Saturday afternoon where AICC secretaries, TPCC working presidents, DCC presidents and MP candidates will participate to review the election results. It will also discuss the strategies to be adopted for the MLC and ZP elections.
