2019 Audi A7 Is One Of The Best Sporty Executive Cars You Can Buy

A rival to the likes of the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS and upcoming BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe, the second generation A7 is aimed to be a force to be reckoned with even among those heavyweights.

The defining feature of the A7 remains the sloping roofline, which inevitably eats into the rear headroom. Thus, if you’re tall, then you won’t have lots of air above you, and you’ll likely won’t fit in the middle seat, which is a bit higher than the outside ones.

It goes without saying that the typical A7 buyer won’t mind this a bit, as their priorities are not an abundance of room (there’s the A6 for that) but the elegant and sporty design, extremely comfortable ride and tech-jammed interior. The cargo area, which can fit a bicycle after folding down the rear seats( which, by the way, do not create a flat load space) is an added bonus.

The interior features a minimalist design with high-end materials and no less than three screens feels very luxurious. Drivers can use the bottom one to access the climate control and heated seats, whereas the top is for the major functions of the car and comes with haptic feedback too. Due to its positioning, operating it while on the move could be tricky, but that’s where the customizable digital instrument cluster comes in to provide peace of mind.

Practicality is on the decent side and the car doesn’t miss out on the usual smartphone wireless charging, sporty seats that are very comfortable, voice commands and other amenities.

Depending on the market, the latest A7 is offered with a choice of different engines. In the UK, the range counts two petrol units and three diesels, with CarBuyer testing out the 50 TDI V6 diesel, which churns out 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque. It provides good levels of power, but the 8-speed automatic gearbox is sometimes hesitant and the 7-speed offered with the gasoline burners is a better choice.

The overall feel is that of a luxurious executive saloon with heaps of comfort and extremely good build quality, which makes the new A7 one of the best choices in the class, as you can see in the review right below that also lists all of the Audi‘s highlights and niggles.
