Following a plea alleging operation of illegal banquet halls in west Delhi, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed a joint committee comprising representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board and Delhi Pollution Control Committee to conduct an inspection.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the joint committee to carry out inspections of the banquet and marriage halls in Punjabi Bagh.

Earlier, the panel had sought an action-taken report from a committee that also comprised civic body officials. However, the Bench noted that the report furnished had said that while eight banquet halls were inspected, there were others in the area as well. “They could not produce building plans or maps. None of them have authorised parking arrangement. All had borewells but could not produce permission. The report filed by the DPCC is that three of the banquet halls are operating without consent to operate,” the report said.
