NEW DELHI: The
Enforcement Directorate is likely to seek custodial interrogation of former Kolkata police commissioner
Rajeev Kumar after CBI, which is seeking his arrest, is through with its questioning of the top cop in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
Sources said Kumar will be questioned in connection with involvement of some politicians in the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scams, both being investigated by ED for alleged
money laundering. Kumar had earlier probed the two scams as head of a SIT set up by the West Bengal government.
CBI has accused Kumar of tampering with evidence and call data records of some of the key accused when the SIT was investigating the two scams in which investors lost over Rs 20,000 crore.
The apex court on Friday refused to extend interim protection from arrest granted to Kumar after it went through a preliminary report submitted by CBI which informed the court that the former SIT chief has been evasive in his responses and is not cooperating with the probe.
In the Rose Valley scam, the ED had attached assets worth more than Rs 2,000 crore, including 11 resorts, nine hotels and a 200-acre plot besides 414 land parcels. The group had collected over Rs 17,000 crore from investors promising them high returns.
